‘Out of business’: New trucking freight tax in talks for Melbourne
Sky News host Paul Murray says trucks moving freight in and out of Melbourne could be slugged with a new tax on containers.
“In Victoria there is a conversation happening as we speak about even further increasing the amount that it costs for things to move from the Port of Melbourne around Melbourne and then out to the rest of Victoria,” Mr Murray said.
“The Victorian premier is seriously considering a new proposal that would add between $150 to $250 to any truck that wishes to drive freight out of the Port of Melbourne.
“The trucks will be slugged with a tiered tax.
“Of $150 to $250 per container.”

Idiot hopping a freight train in Melbourne - A very dangerous thing to do! - PoathTV
It's amazing just how stupid some people are. Jumping onto moving freight trains doesn't make you "cool", it just confirms you're a fool.
It was so dark when I filmed this in 2009 I wasn't even aware it had happened at the time. It was only when reviewing the footage I noticed the idiot making his move.

Throughout the video we see the usual variety of Metro Trains Melbourne Comeng and Siemens EMU's as well as some V/Line Vlocities. However we do see multiple sightings of interest and a couple of unexpected surprises, including:
- Brand new High Capacity Metro Train's (HCMT) sets 11 & 18 heading towards the city on test runs. The HCMT's are the first new type of electric rollingstock to be introduced on the metropolitan rail network in nearly two decades.
- Metro track inspection vehicle IEV100 returning to Melbourne after spending some time in Gippsland.
- The Dandenong Cement Train with G515 & B74.
- The Maryvale Paper Train with VL360 & VL354.
With COVID lockdown restrictions having been eased in Melbourne and the 'ring of steel' between Melbourne and Regional Victoria removed, this is my first new Melbourne-based video to be recorded in over 4 months! It's good to be back in Melbourne!
This is technically a sequel to my Trackside at Dandenong video. I had originally intended for these two videos to be recorded on the same day (and in hindsight it worked out well that I didn't ;) ) Check out that video if you haven't already: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2bpCkuVSvuU

In this video we spend the day at Wangaratta; a small city on Victoria's North East line with a population of 29,080 around 236km north east of Melbourne. Wangaratta is served by V/Line Albury Line services, and the Sydney - Melbourne XPT operated by NSW Trainlink. In the video we see some V/Line Vlocity DMU's and some NSW Trainlink XPT's. We also see a couple of freight trains including Pacific National's 7SM2 container train hauled by NR46, LDP005, TT112, NR30 & NR51, and QUBE's 7WM7 steel train hauled by QL003, CF4405 and an unidentified QL locomotive.
The majority of the clips were filmed at the stations' two footbridges at Docker Street and Cusack Street. Wangaratta is unique as its one of the few remaining stations along the line to retain its footbridges. However both footbridges will be demolished in the future to make way for the Inland Rail Project which will enable double-stacked containers to operate along the line. Infact the Cusack Street footbridge will close for good on the 29th June 2023.
The 1960's cutting for the then new standard gauge line is also on the chopping block. The footbridges and cutting will be replaced by a new relocated railway line adjacent to the existing line. This will involve constructing a new second platform and a pedestrian underpass.
Wangaratta station opened on the 28th October 1873 as the temporary terminus of the North East Line from Benalla, before being extended to Wodonga on the 21st November 1873. The station building was completed in 1874 and is still largely intact. The station precinct including the station building, signal box, goods shed, and the water tower, is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register.
